the north east ukulele project

The North East Ukulele Project was brought together in 2025. The team currently consists of Laura Robinson, Simon Bromhead, Darren Gray, Carl Newbrook, Jamie Renwick and Tim Robinson.

The North East is lucky to have many great ukulele groups already. We are passionate about reaching people in the region who otherwise might not feel able to learn the ukulele or join a group.

We will tackle loneliness, promote wellbeing and build communities by:

  • Encouraging music making for all
  • Donating ukuleles to schools and community groups
  • Providing teaching resources to schools, teachers and community groups
  • Working with schools in the region to set challenges and provide performance opportunities, and
  • Providing performance opportunities for artists and community groups, helping us to reach and inspire as many people as possible.

So far we have run a number of events that have raised funds and given people a chance to play music in a friendly and supportive environment. We expect to officially launch in early 2026: watch this space or follow us on Facebook for more information.
